Vicarage Lane

This website owes its origins to a planning application for a mast on Vicarage Lane off Watling Street Road. Follow this link for a brief history of that campaign.

Hutchison 3G's surveyors have said that the area around the east side of Cadley Bridge is unsuitable for a mast because of potential signal problems associated with nearby high trees. Hutchison are considering applying for permission to erect mobile phone masts at the Garstang Road/Lytham Road/Watling Street Road junction and on land adjacent to the allotments off Sharoe Green Lane. The latter mast would be temporary.

The Planning Committee have rejected Hutchison 3G PLC planning applications for mobile phone masts at Eastway/Tanglewood and Sharoe Green Lane/opposite Booths.

12 November 2003.

Hospital development plans mean that Orange will lose its 2G phone mast site on the maternity unit at Sharoe Green Hospital. Orange hope to site a replacement mast at Royal Preston Hospital. Failing that, they intend to proceed with plans for three smaller, microcell, installations at the following three locations:

Land off Sharoe Green Lane/Sherwood Way
    Land at A6/Black Bull Lane
Land at Boys Lane/Black Bull Lane

Orange had previously considered, and then ruled out, all of these locations because of difficulties related to nearby gas mains. They now believe that they can overcome these problems; the potential sites will be back on the agenda in the event that a phone mast at Royal Preston Hospital doesn't work out.

The council planning department are recommending that Hutchison 3G PLC planning applications for mobile phone masts at Eastway/Tanglewood and Sharoe Green Lane/opposite Booths smaller car park be rejected. The Planning Committee will hear the applications on Monday 10 November 2003. Hutchison have indicated some flexibility over the siting of the proposed Eastway mast and will be considering the possibilities of siting the required mast either further north along Eastway or on the nearby golf course.

Hutchison are still seeking a site to replace the base station site originally planned for Fulwood Ambulance Station/Vicarage Lane. They have no firm plans at the minute but are reconsidering Fulwood Methodist Church as a possible location. Hutchison's surveyors have also identified Preston Muslim Society, on Watling Street Road, and land near Savick brook, between the Sharoe Green Hospital maternity unit and Sharoe Green Lane, as possibilities. We understand that Preston Muslim Society, who opposed the mast planned for Vicarage Lane, and Fulwood Methodist Church will not allow phone masts on their property. We have asked Hutchison's surveyors to assess the east side of Cadley Bridge, and adjacent land, as a potential site.
